The main doors will be open at 8:50am for the children to arrive and will close at 9am. At the end of the school day the children will be dismissed at 3:05pm. Please remember to socially distance and please wear masks when possible.

Autumn Term 2021

This term Year 4/5 will be following the Cornerstones theme Scream Machine. 

 Roll Up, Roll Up!

 This term you’re going on a day trip to a theme park to soak up the unique sights, smells and sounds of the fair.

Learn about the science behind roller coasters and write poems that are shaped as a loop the loop. Design your own theme park and show your ideas on a digital map.

 Testing, testing! Time for some mini investigations. Cam mechanisms, pendulums, pulleys and prototypes. Let’s go behind the scenes to see forces at work.

 Good news! The engineers at ‘Scream Towers’ love your work and want you to build a death-defying new drop ride for a theme park. Make a working model and test out with uncooked eggs. Cracking stuff! 

Okay, ready to ride? Don’t forget to scream if you want to go faster!

Help your child prepare for their projectPlan a trip to a local theme park for your family. Calculate the costs and time needed. Write an itinerary for the day! Research online to find information about roller coasters around the world. Which is the oldest? Longest? Scariest? Make a fairground ride/rollercoaster using available materials (Lego, Kinex, etc). Why not include a loop the loop? Research and write a biographical account about Walter Elias, animator and entrepreneur. Research and deliver your findings about the history of our very own Ilkeston Fair! Have a go at makingFairgroud foods! Why not put your own twist on it? Write a diary entry after a trip to the fair (real or imaginary!) How did you feel? What did you see/hear/smell? Become a pendulum on the swings at the park! Swing as high as possible and time how long it takes for you to slow down and stop completely. Time family and friends then identify patterns. Do heavier people slow down more quickly? Sketch/create your face as if you were on a rollercoaster. Be as imaginative and creative as you can!

Physical Education lessons will be held on Thursdays. Pupils are currently expected to wear their PE kits into school.

Homework - English/Maths tasks will be given on a Friday and should be returned by Monday. Mental maths task or spelling words will be given on a Monday for return or a test on a Friday.  All tasks will be will be set using either just2easy or Google classroom (Please see below on how to access our Google Classroom).

Times tables need to be revised every night.

Reading books are to be returned daily. Reading is to be carried out at home as often as possible and pupils will be asked to read in school and record what they have read.
